Fall is one of my favorite seasons for outerwear! If you’ve followed me for long, you know that outerwear is a big part of my wardrobe and this post will have you adding to your outer-wardrobe, too! These are my favorite looks for fall – and you know me, I always choose classic pieces that you’ll be able to wear for autumns to come!
The Timeless Trench Coat
If you don’t have a classic trench coat like this one in your closet, you need to add one – it’s a staple piece that you’ll wear for years and years. Find one that fits perfectly? Buy two just in case! There’s something about the perfect shade of this one, too, that I love, too – not quite camel or beige, a little hint of champagne. The Leather Moto Jacket
A leather moto jacket is another must-have closet staple. It’s the perfect addition to almost any fall outfit. Pair it with jeans, skirts, over dresses, with leggings, add a soft plaid scarf…see? anything! Be sure to invest in a quality, well-fitting piece for this one and I guarantee you’ll wear it on repeat. Shown: The Essential Leather Moto Jacket (Banana Republic)
The Classic Field Jacket
A field jacket is a fall favorite of mine. I love them with jeans (my staple!) and a cute scarf or even thrown over a casual dress. I have visions of birding in the Scottish countryside with a pair of Hunter Rain Boots and a jacket like this one! Shown: The Downtown Field Jacket (J.Crew)
The Plaid “Shacket”
The plaid ‘shacket’ is one of the trendiest things this fall. I know it’s a 90s throwback, which I personally find tricky to work into my wardrobe (likely because of my age!) but belting it like this is super cute – and makes it a lot more flattering and way more grown up. The Plaid Topcoat
When I think of fall, I always think of plaid, and this classic English-style topcoat screams timeless fall to me! It makes me want to put on a pair of camel pants and leather riding boots! Shown: Dalton Top Coat in Glen English Plaid
The Blazer Coat
Wool blazer coats like this one are great for cooler fall days and transition beautifully into winter as well. They dress up any casual outfit! I prefer it in brown rather than black because it just feels more “fall”. I feel like people often opt for black wool coats instead of leaning towards the timeless, always flattering warmer tones. The Quilted Vest
You know I can’t resist adding a vest to a list of outerwear because vests are pretty much my favorite thing or chilly weather. This quilted vest is nice and lightweight but still cozy because of the PrimaLoft! Classic black is a great choice, but if the option is available, I always opt for navy! The Plaid Trench Coat
I love the silhouette of a classic trench but add in the extra allure of a fall plaid and I can’t resist! This plaid trench coat is so gorgeous – and the tartan print will be classic for seasons to come. I love that the black and white makes it pair well over any outfit. The Wear-Anywhere Rain Coat
This is the best rain coat I have ever owned – hands down. I know it’s a bit pricy, but it is well worth it. It serves as a 3 season jacket in most of Canada and is perfect for the back country or paired with jeans for strolling through downtown on a rainy (or windy) day. It’s definitely a technical piece you’ll want in your fall repertoire. Shown: Codetta Cinch Coat (Arc’Teryx)
The Hooded Down Puffer
You know I can’t resist throwing technical clothing into roundups like these because I’m such an outdoorsy girl, I need these pieces. This down hoody is perfect for layering and packs really well into a commuter bag or hiking backpack. Shown: Cerium LT Women’s Hoody (Arc’Teryx)
The Classic Cape
I know a cape isn’t a jacket, but there’s something so wonderfully classic about this piece of outerwear the is just right for fall. It’s classic and elegant and takes a certain gravitas to pull it off – which is what makes it so special. Every fall I see someone like Victoria Beckham sporting one of these which makes me want one even more. Shown: Julia Cape (Roots)
