Homemade sourdough bread seems to be all the rage these days, but finding or creating a starter can be really tedious, and to be honest, ain’t nobody got time for that! I can’t be bothered to remember to feed and stir a starter as many times as it requires and if I want sourdough bread, I probably want it today (not a week from now).

Don’t let anyone tell you this can’t be done! You can make sourdough without a starter, I promise! And it is amazing and delicious and just as good as if you’d cared for this thing for weeks.

Let me tell you how to make homemade sourdough bread without a starter!

Instructions:

This is a really simple process – really anyone can do it! If you want to see the video, check out my Instagram Reel here. Here are the simple steps to making homemade sourdough bread without a starter:

Measure your flour into a bowl.

Add your salt.

Add Sourdough Starter Packet.

Whisk together dry ingredients.

Slowly mix in your water.

Ensure dough is mixed thoroughly.

Cover your dough and leave to rise/proof in a warm/room temperature place or proofing drawer for 2 hours.

Remove from container, pour onto lightly floured surface, lightly dust with flour and fold onto itself until smooth (without working air out).

Line a clean, dry bowl with parchment paper and put the dough on parchment paper, cover with a kitchen towel and let rise for another 1 hour.

Preheat your oven to 450F with Dutch Oven inside (to pre-warm it)

Once the second rise and pre-heat are complete, place the dough ball by grabbing the parchment paper and put it inside the Dutch Oven , then put the lid on.

You can slice the top if you want to. I like to make an “X”

Bake for 30 mins.

Remove from oven. Remove parchment paper. Put back in the oven, this time without the lid.

Bake for additional 10-15 mins (depending on how dark you like it).

Remove from oven and tap to see if it sounds done.

Place on cooling rack and let rest at least 10 minutes.

Enjoy!!!

Kitchen Tools Used

I always want the best tools for the job, so I’ve included my faves below for making this recipe. I will note that any Dutch Oven will do, but I prefer a round one from Le Creuset – use the biggest one you have! Here’s everything that I used in this recipe:
