Would you be brave enough to paint a room black? I’ve talked about accent walls in the past and I’ve braved deep tones like dark navy, but I’ve never gone so far as to paint an entire room black. I love how timeless the colour is and in each of the black room inspo I’m sharing below, there are different light levels, both natural and added.
I want to show you that going bold with black walls is something you just might fall in love with!
Bold Black Powder Room
A powder room is one of my favorite spaces to go bold! The semi-gloss black paint and bright sconces don’t make this space feel dark at all. I love this warm wood vanity and shiplap feature wall. The shiplap adds some great texture and interest but maintains the same paint color of the entire space.

Classic Black Studies
I don’t know what it is about black office spaces with large windows, warm toned furniture and white oak floors, but it feels classic and timeless. It feels like a space that you’d want to sit down and write a novel or sip a cup of coffee and browse online stores!

I love a dark office space, and this one is extra special because it’s a “hidden” room that is hidden behind a barn door, accessed through the butler’s pantry. A home office is something personal that ought to be tucked away from the rest of the home, especially when guests are over. These dark blue-black walls are the perfect shade! The space is has a wall that is made up entirely of windows so it is filled with natural light.

I love the contrast of these black walls with the white oak floors. The caramel leather chairs add so much warmth and texture to a space that feels masculine in the most classic sense of the word. I love that the space is hidden behind double doors that are framed with custom black cabinetry, too. The high contrast is what makes this space work so well.

I know that this office space doesn’t feature walls that are completely black, but rather a wallpaper with black and charcoal tones. This room is actually enclosed in glass so it is flooded with natural light from its adjoining hallways. I love how this “black” space anchors the centre of this home.

Beautiful Black Kitchens
I am a huge fan of black kitchen cabinets (I have them in my home). There is something so comforting about this moody stain that makes you want to curl up at the island with a hot cup of tea (or hot toddy).

As much as an all-black kitchen can cast a wonderful modern shadow, having some warm greys and whites mixed in for contrast allow the cabinetry to make their own stunning statement in the space.

Black Butler’s Pantry
It can be intimidating to use shades of black in an enclosed space like a butler’s pantry, but the varying textures and tones, both matte and glossy, really make this space pop. I love the classic drawer fronts and the white grout in this picket tile backsplash pops with the white veining in the black marble counters.
Although these custom pantry shelves and cabinets appear to be dark charcoal in this photo, it just goes to show you that proper lighting in a space can keep a deep shade like black from being “too dark”. I also feel like butler’s pantries are like powder rooms – they’re an opportunity to do something bold and unexpected.
