Books make such great gifts, and thanks to Amazon, they’re great last minute gifts, too! I love books by comedians for a few reasons – you have to be pretty intelligent to be a comedian (or to be a good comedian) and these books often have excellent stories and social commentary.
Disclaimer: I’ll be honest that I had to post-pone this gift guide in light of some of the recent allegations against a few comedians out there. I hope that this list is safe for the holiday season! Click the titles below to shop them all!
#1: Unqualified – Anna Faris ($16, Amazon). Anna Faris has advice for you. And it’s great advice, because she’s been through it all, and she wants to tell you what she’s learned.
#2: Stephen Colbert’s Midnight Confessions ($9.99, Amazon). As a fan of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, this book had to make the list. This is a collection of his “Midnight Confessions”, a segment he runs on the show that pays comedic homage to his Catholic heritage.
#3: I Can’t Make This Up: Life Lessons – Kevin Hart ($17.95, Amazon). This book is half comedy, half memoir on survival, success, and the importance of believing in yourself. If you know anything about his story, you’ll know this book is a must-read.
#4: The Last Black Unicorn – Tiffany Haddish ($16, Amazon). This book is sure to be hilarious. Having trouble placing her? She’s the brains behind the movie Girls Trip. This book is a sidesplitting, hysterical, edgy, and unflinching collection of (extremely) personal essays.
#5: Girl Logic [The Genius and the Absurdity] – Iliza Shlesinger ($17.70, Amazon). I love Iliza’s standup – it makes me laugh so hard I almost pee while tears stream down my cheeks. I saw her live and could barely keep my eyes open because I was laughing so hard! My favorite special of hers is Freezing Hot (it’s on Netflix – go watch it).
#6: I’m Fine…And Other Lies – Whitney Cummings ($16.50, Amazon). This is a book full of wit, humour and honesty – everything you’d expect from her. It’s also full of life lessons about what to do when you find yourself with brutal anxiety and a co-dependency disorder.
#7: The Awkward Thoughts of W. Kamau Bell ($16.50, Amazon). I’m a big fan of his show on CNN, “United Shades of America” and the way he uses comedy to tell the story of the real America. This book is great for the comedy lover and political junkie on your list.
