My husband and I recently (finally!) tried the local Calgary establishment, Starbelly. We’d heard nothing but praise from friends about the spot and figured we needed to experience it for ourselves.

The restaurant is known for serving up signature cocktails and seasonal dishes that feature all locally sourced ingredients. The contemporary selections are casual, but with distinct flare and fantastic flavours. My biggest complaint was that too many things looked good that I had difficulty deciding what to order!

The space itself is both upscale and casual and would be the ideal location for a group gathering, cocktail or engagement party, or even a wedding reception. I love the open kitchen, high ceilings, and well displayed wine cellar.

The bar space is ample for popping in for a late afternoon cocktail ($5 drinks and feature menu!) or for even having dinner with a friend. I also like any place that I can wear jeans or a dress and it doesn’t matter.

Their daily specials are incredible and make heading to this spot a real treat. Some of these specials include $6 signature cocktails on Thursdays, #YYCMondays where you can get a local craft beer and house made burger for $20, Market Style Sunday Brunch and even Sunday Supper.

Starbelly is one of my favorite spots for date night – its atmosphere and comfortable banquettes make for both an intimate and familiar experience. I suggest making a reservation beforehand.
